LEE HONG MIN 이홍민

Hongmin Lee
Born in Seoul, 1982
Majored in animated film at Korea National University of Art
Mostly works on illustration/painting
He first started painting in 2012 through working with an art team named GooForBrothers
Introduced his work collaborating with his fellow artists
Hold his first private exhibition in 2015 at Ispace gallery
Continuing his private work ever since
Hongmin engages his emotion into the culture he experienced and make it into figures on canvas
In his paintings, human body is an assembly of mussels that expands and contracts constantly underneath a layer of skin, which creates delicate power and tension like the ones you see in cartoons through ellipsis and exaggeration
His work is still on progress of constant self-denial and self-destruction.
His somewhat abnormal and strange paintings is still on progress of experimenting his own methodology in between the fine line of modern art and illustration.
“I believe human’s body is an assembly of will and I try to express it with a bunch of twisted muscles.”
Says Hongmin.
